On 5th July 2024 The Prime Minister stood on the steps of Downing Street and talked about wanting to “return Government to the service of working people”. The philosophy behind this had been worked on extensively in Opposition with the announcement that Labour would enable “mission-driven government” to “restore our ambition, raise our sights above the quick fixes, the pandering to the noisy crowd, the short-termism that will only ever provide the sticking plaster”.
The original missions, were broad and ambitious but not focused enough to deliver traction with the public in a General Election a campaign and so in June the broad missions were iterated into more of a retail offer in Keir Starmer’s “first steps for change”.Read the report
