At the start of 2020, DevoConnect published the “Devo 3.0 Review – Laying the Foundations for More and Better Devolution” on behalf of the 2070 Commission. This concluded that devolution, in particular greater powers and decision making, could be the key to rebalancing the UK economy as well as civic and democratic renewal.
This involved an audit of 42 decision makers and opinion formers who are experts in devolution, including Metro Mayors, Local Authority Leaders, Peers and MPs, as well as thought leaders and commentators. It also looked at the future purpose of devolution in England.
Since then we have held a number of roundtable discussions continuing the debate of what good devolution looks like, with the latest in January 2023 at KPMG Manchester, which asked “is devolution the solution for unlocking growth and rebalancing the economy?”
